International City Theatre
.
International City Theater, housed in the Center Theater and part of the Long Beach Performing Arts Center, is Long Beach's resident professional theater company. The Center Theater was recently refurbished in 1999 by the city of Long Beach for ICT after almost a 20 year existence. ICT has a history of award-winning theater since 1985. To date, ICT has received 165 professional awards including the Los Angeles Drama Critic's Circle Award for Sustained Excellence in the Theater - the first time a Long Beach theatre has received this acknowledgement. In addition to their main stage productions, ICT has numerous outreach programs for low income seniors, children and youth, including a summer conservatory for training, an internship program, a travelling children's theatre, and others. Among these is an especially popular and growing program, the Free Saturday Afternoon Family Series.
ICT is not a membership company. All artists such as directors and designers involved with ICT work on a freelance basis. All actors are Equity working under an SPT contract. To assist with the casting of each show, a casting director is contracted. Administratively, ICT consists of a Board of Directors made up of community leaders, politicians, and corporate leaders. It is supported by the Artistic Director/Producer, administrative staff, artists, subscribers, ticket buyers, and many volunteers.
ICT is supported by government and foundation grants, corporate, and individual support, and earned income from subscriptions and ticket sales.
ICT's vision of for the future is "to continue our growth as a major regional theatre in the United States providing quality, affordable professional theater, and expanding our programming and outreach programs to touch more lives, make a difference, and secure the art form itself. As we as humans become more isolated by computers and voice mail, the need for human connection which theater provides will be greater."
