Actors Co-op
.
The Actors Co-op was founded in 1987 with only 12 actors. The Crossley and Crossley Terrace Theatres are located on the campus of Hollywood Presbyterian Church which is celebrating its centennial anniversary in 2003. The Crossley Theatre opened as a 99-seat Equity approved theatre in April of 1989. It was originally a classroom for children attending Bible studies at Hollywood Presbyterian Church. The Crossley Terrace Theatre opened in March of 1995 and was used in a similar capacity prior to its renovation. Both of these theatres are still used for the children's programs at the church. Since the Crossley Theatre opened, Actors Co-op has produced 14 Mainstage productions, six Second Stage productions, and has received 29 Drama-Logue Awards.
Actors Co-op is comprised of approximately 60 professional actors. It is governed by a body of 12 entertainment professionals, including three representatives from the membership of the theater. It receives 65% of its funding from ticket sales and 35% from foundations and individual donors. Although Hollywood Presbyterian Church does not provide Actors Co-op with any funds, it does give the theatre space to perform in and office space as well.
Actors Co-op's vision for the future includes continuing to produce theatre in Hollywood to even larger audiences by increasing their subscriber base and hopefully adding a larger venue to the theatres they produce in. They also hope to expand their community outreach by touring to schools and churches.
